Bradford PA v Stockport – National League

A good friend of mine is a huge Stockport County Fan and I have been to a number of their games over the years. On Good Friday 2018 I attended a match involving ‘The County’ outside of the Manchester area for the first time. The location Bradford, where The Hatters faced Bradford Park Avenue in the National League North.

It was a busy journey (thanks to the 770 Stockport fans that attended) to the all ticket match, with a train from Manchester to Huddersfield, then a change to the nearest train station, Low Moor. An all the way uphill mile and half walk to the Horsfall Stadium followed.

A crowd of 1044 with over 70% supporting Stockport watched as the visitors totally dominated and took a well earnt 2-0 lead by the 60 minute mark. However complacency allowed Bradford Park Avenue back into the game and with two quick goals they levelled it up with less than 10 minutes to go.

We were then left with a frenetic ending to the match, both teams had chances, but justice was done a delicately placed volley from Stockport’s number 8, James Ball, brought a winner in the 94th minute – cue a friendly pitch invasion from a jubilant section of the Stockport fans. My friend was happy and so was a very relieved manager, Jim Gannon. Sixth place in the division after this dramatic victory and a place in the playoffs looking more and more secure as the weeks go by.

Alfreton Town v York City – National League

York City achieved back to back wins for the first time in a couple of months with a dramatic 3-2 win over Alfreton Town. The home goal scorers were scored by Keane (33) and Daniels (55). With York’s away goals coming from Connolly (13) and a double from Parkin (52, 70 pen) inside the Impact Arena in front of around 1000 fans.

One of those fans was a friend of ours who now lives in the area after moving there recently. He supports York City as well, so was very pleased to be ticking off a new ground that he’d not been to before. He was even more pleased that York won the match but apparently on Saturday it could have easily been won by the home side as well. As arguably certain decisions along with a little bit of luck played a massive part in the eventual scoreline. Here are some more picture from his day out:
